Let’s Make a New Deal

January 20 @ 7:00 pm 8:30 pm

The Amelia Island Genealogical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7pm on the 3rd Tuesday, 20 January 2026, in the community room at the Fernandina Branch Library. The public is invited to join us!

At this meeting, guest speaker Larry Fermi will present “Let’s Make a New Deal,” a program examining the Works Progress Administration, Civilian Conservation Corps, and National Youth Administration. The presentation focuses on how these New Deal programs affected ordinary Americans during the Great Depression and the records they produced.

The talk will explain the purpose and scope of these make-work projects and highlight the genealogically significant records created by each agency. Attendees will learn how to identify whether their relatives participated in these programs and where to locate relevant documentation.

Retired in 2014, Larry honed his skills in front of audiences doing technical presentations in the corporate world and as an actor in countless community theater productions since 1971. He worked for 15 years as a professional genealogist and was a long time member of the NJ based Monmouth County Genealogy Society and was a popular speaker on basic and advanced genealogy related subjects in the greater NY metropolitan area. Before retiring Larry was a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Genealogical Speakers Guild, the National Genealogical Society as well as the Genealogical Society of New Jersey and is now an active member of the Genealogical Society of Southeast Volusia County.
